Top Ten Worst Christmas Movies: #3 Silent Night, Deadly Night, etc…..

3. Silent Night Deadly Night, Black Christmas, Santa’s Slay, Christmas Evil, etc….

What is it about:

“Silent Night, Deadly Night” is the heartwarming story of little Billy Chapman who was traumatized by his parents’ Christmas Eve rape and murder, then brutalized by sadistic orphanage nuns. But when a grown-up Billy is forced to dress as jolly St. Nick, he goes on a yuletide rampage to ‘punish the naughty.’ Santa Claus is coming to town…and this time he’s got an axe!

“Christmas Evil” Harry Stadling (Brandon Maggert) is obsessed with Christmas! In fact he wants to “be” the authentic Santa Claus, with a real suit, sleigh and reindeer. Ever since he learned the “truth” about Santa, he’s tried to make Christmas a reality. Growing up a toy maker, Harry is met with naysayers and critics who mock him for his yuletide beliefs. but he wants people to get the presents they deserve, even if that means giving the gift of murder! Cynics and uptight hypocrites beware!

Santa’s Slay and Black Christmas, I think you can figure it out.

Why are they #3:

I’m not saying these are bad movies, just bad Christmas movies.  In fact, a couple of them are decent slasher films (and a couple not).

However, since there are Yuletide themes they can be classified as Christmas films.  Christmas films that utterly fail to bring the spirit of joy.  Yeah, I know get a life.  You know what you’re getting when you watch them.

That may be true, but can’t we keep a few childhood memories untainted by the grime of making the almighty buck.  These movies are sheer exploitation of Christmas, Santa and movie patron.  Murder and mayhem are not on my Christmas Wish List.

Ever since Michael Myers strolled through Haddonfield on that fateful 1978 Halloween night, Hollywood has used the holiday gimmick to promote their studio’s own slasher brand.  Think New Years Evil, April Fool’s Day, My Bloody Valentine (two versions), Memorial Day and on.  Just what we all want to relate to on our favorite holiday, a brutal killer.

The Black Christmas remake was launched a few years ago on Christmas Day and utterly bombed.  Nuff said!

It truthfully may be said, Hollywood may have a Santa problem!
