Popcorn Maker + Great Movie = Perfect Christmas Night In

Going to the cinema is fun, but curling up at home with a great movie at Christmas can be even better – especially if you’ve got your own popcorn maker! When the nights are cold and the ground is slippery, sometimes we prefer to stay in the warm on the sofa, and whether you’re tucked up with the kids, with your man, with friends or simply enjoying a quiet night in, picking the right film and popping some corn can only add to the experience.

Popcorn makers and machines are available online and from many high street stores like here. They usually cost in the range of $20 to $100, depending on how many features you wish to enjoy. Flashy expensive ones replicate the atmosphere of a cinema with bright colors and have clear glass so you can watch the corn pop, but cheaper models will make popcorn that is just as tasty and fresh.
Using your popcorn maker is very simple: just buy popcorn kernels from the supermarket plus any ingredients you wish to flavour it with, and set up your machine. Models will vary, but the basic idea is to heat up some oil in the popcorn maker, adding a couple of kernels to see when the oil is hot enough to make them pop, and when they do just add the rest of the corn. When it is all popped, toss the corn in your chosen flavourings, usually salt or sweet flavours such as caramel or toffee. Some people like to go for unusual flavours of popcorn such as marmite or bacon, and this can be fun for a party, or maybe you’re just a bit weird. Crack on!

Choosing a great Christmas movie is fun as there are so many great ones to choose from. Into classics? It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, A Christmas Carol…Need kids’ movies? Home Alone, Elf, the Chronicles of Narnia, Bad Santa, How the Grinch Stole Christmas…Looking to entertain your friends? Batman Returns, Trading Places, Scrooged, Gremlins, Die Hard…Want something a bit weepy and romantic? The Bishop’s Wife, Joyeux Noel, Holiday Inn…the list goes on. Perhaps you’re sick to death of Christmas stuff and you’d prefer some recent cutting edge releases? Again, crack on…

So, you’ve got your popcorn, you’re movie is ready to roll, and you’re all in your Christmas pyjamas on the sofa. Maybe you have an open fire and the Christmas lights are twinkling on the tree, maybe it’s even snowy outside and your neighbours are those nutters that drain the national grid by covering their whole house in fairy lights. How ever you’re set up, it’s warmer inside than out and you deserve some relaxation time after a busy year. Roll the movie, pop the popcorn and enjoy!
